Groundswell, in collaboration with the Community Church Atlanta, Stryten Energy, InterUrban Solar, the City of Atlanta, the Wells Fargo Foundation, and GM, has initiated the construction of a community-owned resilience hub in the Southeast on April 30. The 34.1 kW DC solar installation at the Vicars Community Center, affiliated with the Community Church Atlanta, will integrate 320 kWh of battery storage to facilitate safe community gatherings during emergencies or severe weather. The project leverages Elective Pay and a low-income tax credit allocation from the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). Stryten Energy is responsible for the battery system, ensuring three days of backup power. Ownership of the hub rests with the Community Church, supported by funding from GM Foundation, Stryten Energy, and Wells Fargo Foundation, with engineering led by InterUrban Solar and SunCatch Energy.
