TotalEnergies has initiated construction of New York State’s largest onsite solar generating and storage system at JFK International Airport, partnering with Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) and the New York Power Authority (NYPA). The solar carport, to be built in a long-term parking lot, will yield about 12 MW of onsite power and 7.5 MW of battery storage, aiding energy reduction during peak times. Roughly half of the 12 MW will fuel the AirTrain rail link, with the rest supporting historically disadvantaged communities surrounding the airport. The project will roll out in phases from 2025 to 2026, aiming to cut carbon dioxide emissions by over 6,000 tons annually, aligning with PANYNJ’s 2050 net zero emissions objective.
