Burns & McDonnell, an EPC company, has successfully completed nine solar projects totaling 764 MW in Wisconsin. The solar projects in Wisconsin began construction in 2021 and were completed in stages. These projects are part of Alliant Energy’s Clean Energy Blueprint and are expected to provide power to approximately 170,000 homes during their first year of operation. The project included the construction of nine greenfield substations, with six gen-tie lines of about 8 miles of 69-kV and 138-kV transmission to get the power to the grid. Facing challenges in the supply chain, the team utilized temporary high-voltage gas circuit breakers from an Alliant Energy coal plant to maintain the project schedule. This approach allowed for continued progress while waiting for necessary equipment.
