In 2024, over 100 GW of global renewable energy capacity will be tendered, with 60 GW in offshore wind, matching 2023 levels, according to Wood Mackenzie’s latest analysis. The EMEA region will host over 50% of the tenders, mainly for offshore wind. China plans 17 GW in offshore wind, and Germany has announced 25 GW in renewable rounds. 2023 saw 137 GW awarded globally, with onshore wind, offshore wind, and solar PV dominating the allocations. Solar PV led with 44% (61 GW), followed by onshore wind at 24% (34 GW) and offshore wind at 23% (31 GW). China led in 2023 with 55 GW, followed by India with 20 GW.

The majority of government tender awards favored solar PV, representing 44% of the total volume with 61 GW, decreasing from 59% in 2022.
