Germany sets record with 59.7% renewable electricity in 2023

In 2023, Germany achieved a record-breaking 59.7% share of renewables in net electricity generation, with renewables constituting 57.1% in the load. Fraunhofer ISE’s analysis reveals photovoltaic systems generated 59.9 TWh, with 53.5 TWh fed into the grid and 6.4 TWh for self-consumption. June saw the highest monthly solar power generation at 9 TWh. Notably, July 7 witnessed a peak solar output of 40.1 GW, comprising 68% of electricity generation. Photovoltaic capacity expansion surpassed government targets, reaching 13.2 GW by November, exceeding the planned 9 GW.
