Reliance NU Suntech Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of Reliance Power Ltd, is investing INR 10,000 crore (~$1.15 billion) in a solar project in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh. The project includes 930 MW of solar capacity and a 465 MW/1,860 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS). Claimed to be Asia’s largest solar and battery energy storage project, it guarantees a 4-hour peak power supply daily. The project, awarded through SECI’s competitive e-reverse auction with a 2,000 MW bid capacity, will be developed on a built-own-operate basis. It is set to be commissioned within 24 months of signing a 25-year power purchase agreement, with power supplied to multiple discoms across India. Expected to create 1,000 direct and 5,000 indirect jobs, the project integrates solar power with advanced energy storage to enhance reliability and cost-effectiveness in renewable energy.
