India-based Borosil Renewables announced a 50% expansion of its solar glass manufacturing capacity, a key component in photovoltaic solar panels. The company’s Board of Directors approved the plan for December 18, 2024, following the Ministry of Finance’s December 4, 2024 notification of a Reference Price for imports. The Reference Price, set at $673–$677 for imports from China (approximately Rs 143 per mm/square meter at the container yard), aims to counteract low-cost imports from China and Vietnam. With this expansion, Borosil’s manufacturing capacity will increase from 1,000 tons per day to 1,500 tons per day. The Reference Price will serve as a minimum threshold for import prices and support the company’s ability to proceed with its expansion.
