Australia’s energy storage capacity is anticipated to grow by at least 1 GW with the $1.3 billion ZEBRE platform, a joint effort between Australia-based ZEN Energy and Taiwan-listed HDRE. ZEBRE’s first projects include the 256 MW Solar River Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and a 210 MW solar farm near Adelaide, supported by the Capacity Investment Scheme. The platform aims to expand energy storage by 1 GW and solar capacity by 400 MW across four Australian states. Owned 70% by HDRE and 30% by ZEN, ZEBRE also has plans to develop renewable energy assets in Taiwan and Japan. With Australia’s energy storage needs forecasted to rise to 22 GW by 2030, the initiative is anticipated to address a critical gap in renewable energy infrastructure.
