COP29 sees new renewable energy alliance in Central Asia

At COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan, the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Energy launched the Accelerated Partnership for Renewable Energy in Central Asia (APRECA). This initiative aims to strengthen renewable energy deployment and foster green industrialization across Central Asian nations by leveraging regional cooperation, enhancing inter-regional connectivity, and maximizing socioeconomic benefits. Energy ministers from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan participated in the two-day forum, discussing strategies to diversify energy sources, support economic growth, and meet climate objectives. Azerbaijan’s Minister of Energy, Parviz Shahbazov, emphasized the importance of collaboration in establishing the Central Asia-Azerbaijan Green Energy Corridor to strengthen energy security and supply.
