US-based Avantus announced the sale of its Catclaw Solar and Energy Storage Project, located in Buckeye, Arizona, to D.E. Shaw Renewable Investments (DESRI). Catclaw, featuring up to 225 MW of solar and 250 MW/1,000 MWh of energy storage, includes a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Arizona Public Service (APS) to support grid stability and meet peak demand. Set to come online in 2026, Catclaw is expected to offset 470,000 metric tons of CO₂ emissions annually, equivalent to removing 100,000 gas-powered cars from the road. The project will create approximately 325 construction jobs and provide tax revenues benefiting Buckeye and Maricopa County. The project design includes open spaces for wildlife corridors, developed in collaboration with Arizona Game and Fish. Catclaw marks Avantus’s fourth project sold to DESRI, as Avantus expands its development footprint in the Southwest, supported by recent investment from KKR.
