Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC), Abu Dhabi’s key water and electricity procurer, has reported receiving three bids for its 1.5 GW (AC) Khazna PV Project. According to EWEC, the bidders include France-based ENGIE, a consortium between US-based EDF Renewables and Korea Western Power (KOWEPO), and a partnership between China-based Jinko Power and Japan-based JERA. The Khazna PV Project is EWEC’s fourth large-scale solar initiative. Slated for completion in 2027, this project is set to elevate Abu Dhabi’s total solar capacity to approximately 5.5 GW. EWEC issued the RFP in April 2024 after receiving 27 expressions of interest in September 2023, narrowing down to 19 for the proposal phase. The Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) is expected by Q2 2025.
