Sunrun, a US-based solar energy company, partnered with New York’s Orange and Rockland Utilities (O&R) to establish the state’s largest residential solar-plus-storage power plant. Approved by the New York State Public Service Commission, this project deploys over 300 solar-plus-storage systems to stabilize the grid, with Sunrun managing operations. According to O&R, the initiative advances New York’s clean energy targets by dispatching stored solar power during peak demand. Customers participating in the program receive bill credits for feeding surplus power into the grid while retaining 20% of battery energy for backup during outages. O&R’s upfront payment, based on battery capacity, allows Sunrun to offer these systems at minimal or no cost for ten years.
