AES Andes adds 211 MW solar, 130 MW storage projects in Atacama

Chile-headquartered, AES Andes, announced the start of commercial operations for Andes Solar IV, located 230 km east of Antofagasta in the Atacama Desert. The project adds 211 MW of solar capacity and 130 MW of lithium battery energy storage. This project increases AES Andes’ capacity in Antofagasta to 667 MW of solar and 259 MW of batteries. The company plans to expand its operational battery capacity in Chile to over 1,600 MW by 2027. Currently, AES Andes is constructing 572 MW of renewable capacity and developing an additional 1,300 MW, with investments planned from 2024 to 2027. The company is also seeking environmental approval for three new projects, which include 1,700 MW of solar and 2,400 MW of battery capacity.
