The Indian Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has launched a revised solar power scheme under PM JANMAN and PM JUGA to adding up electrifying tribal households along with Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTG) areas without grid access. According to MNRE, the scheme targets 100,000 households in tribal and PVTG areas, each receiving a 0.3 kW solar system with a ₹50,000 subsidy per household. Additionally, ₹1 lakh per kW is allocated to off-grid solar to power solar street lights to be installed at 1,500 Multi-Purpose Centres (MPCs) and 2,000 public institutions. The scheme’s total financial outlay is ₹915 crore, with ₹515 crore set for households and MPCs, and ₹400 crore for public institutions. Running from FY 2023-24 to FY 2028-29, it will be funded by the Development Action Plan for Scheduled Tribes.
