US-Headquartered Dominion Energy Virginia has submitted its 2024 Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) to the Virginia State Corporation Commission and the North Carolina Utilities Commission, outlining its long-term strategy to meet growing electricity demand. The plan emphasizes a shift toward clean energy, with nearly 80% of its future power generation expected to come from carbon-free sources such as wind, solar and storage. Key initiatives include expanding the company’s offshore wind project to 3.4 GW, increasing PV capacity by over 150% with 12 GW of new installations, and adding 4.5 GW of battery storage. By 2039, the company expects to meet the demand within its delivery zone. Dominion Energy proposes 1 GW of new solar projects which will increase its solar fleet in Virginia to over 5,750 MW, enough to power more than 1.4 million homes at peak output.
