Yellow Door Energy (YDE) and Waterberg Boerdery have inaugurated a solar power plant combined with a battery energy storage system (BESS) on Waterberg’s farm in Limpopo, South Africa. The hybrid microgrid system has a capacity of 1,800 kWp for solar PV and 2,900 kWh for battery storage, expected to generate 3,400 MWh of clean energy annually. The project was developed under a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) between YDE and Waterberg Boerdery, allowing the farm to transition to renewable energy without upfront CapEx. The system will significantly reduce energy costs and carbon emissions by 3.5 million kg in the first year. Over 3,200 solar panels were installed on the farm property. Yellow Door Energy, known for its expertise in renewable energy, financed, designed, built, and will operate and maintain the facility.
