The Virginia General Assembly has approved House Bill 1062/Senate Bill 271, enabling rooftop solar leasing through third parties, effective July 1, 2024. With over 50,000 homes already equipped with solar panels, the market is projected to expand nearly tenfold in the next decade. This legislation empowers consumers to control their energy usage and lower costs. The Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) has applauded Governor Youngkin and bipartisan legislators for prioritizing energy freedom. SEIA aims to further advocate for policies fostering solar market growth and prioritizing consumer needs. The bill positions Virginia for a cleaner energy transition, attracts new businesses, and democratizes solar access.
