The Energy Information Administration (EIA) predicts solar power will lead U.S. electricity generation growth, with 36 GW of new capacity in 2024 and 43 GW in 2025. This surge is expected to increase solar’s share to 6% in 2024 and 7% in 2025, up from 4% in 2023. The forecast indicates a 9% decline in coal-generated electricity in 2024 and a 10% decline in 2025, driven by higher costs and coal-fired capacity retirements, while natural gas generation remains constant.
