China-based Trinasolar claims to have successfully produced the world’s first fully recycled c-Si PV module using its self-developed recycling technology. This module is said to have utilized high-value recycled materials such as silicon, silver, aluminum, and glass from waste modules. Trinasolar says it collaborated with upstream and downstream partners to achieve this milestone, applying various techniques, including chemical etching and silver extraction. The recycled PV module boasts an efficiency of 20.7% and a power output exceeding 645 W, utilizing advanced n-type TOPCon technology. Trinasolar has filed 37 patents related to this innovation, aligning with international sustainability standards like the European Union’s WEEE Directive, which mandates the recycling of solar panel components. As a long-term member of PV Cycle, Trinasolar says it has also developed eco-friendly disposal methods to minimize environmental pollution.
