Trina Solar, a Chinese solar company, has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against 3 US-based subsidiaries of Canadian Solar, alleging they’re infringing on two US patents related to TOPCon PV module technology. The lawsuit, filed on October 8, 2024, in the US District Court for the District of Delaware, claims Canadian Solar’s TOPCon solar modules violate Trina Solar’s patents. Canadian Solar, one of the world’s largest solar product manufacturers, disputes the allegations, calling the lawsuit ‘frivolous’. Canadian Solar asserts its proprietary TOPCon technology doesn’t infringe on Trina Solar’s patents and expect the court to rule in its favor.
