Tongwei, a China-based solar manufacturer headquartered in Chengdu, has collaborated with the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China to refine wide-bandgap perovskite crystallization on textured silicon substrates. The study, published in ACS Energy Letters and led by Dr. Wu Lin with Dr. Hu Yuchao and Dr. Zhang Yifeng, has introduced a sequential crystallization modulation strategy to achieve uniform perovskite film growth. According to Tongwei, the approach has delivered a certified 31.4% photoelectric conversion efficiency, which was a record for tandem cells using commercial silicon. The research has clarified perovskite phase transition kinetics influenced by humidity and thermal effects and has outlined a scalable process for defect reduction. Tongwei’s tandem laboratory, has achieved 34.69% research efficiency and 27.52% efficiency on 210 half-cell devices. A megawatt-scale pilot line is scheduled for the Q3 of 2025 and is designed to apply wafer thinning, silver-free metallization, and 0BB technologies for industrial production of perovskite-silicon tandem modules.
