The University of Queensland and Halocell Energy partnered to commercialize tin-based perovskite solar panels. Dr Peng Chen from Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (AIBN) secured nearly $200,000 through Australia’s Economic Accelerator Ignite program. His team, including Professor Lianzhou Wang and Dr Dongxu He, developed lead-free perovskite cells by using tin, achieving a certified efficiency of 16.65%. The project moved toward real-world testing, aiming to validate performance in indoor and outdoor environments. Entrepreneur Paul Moonie and Dr David Pham joined to help scale the technology. The next phase focused on integrating the panels with drones, appliances, and wearable electronics. The initiative targeted indoor solar, portable devicesand smart home markets.
