TALON PV, a US-based solar cell manufacturer, is building a 4 GW TOPCon facility with production targeted by late 2026. Fraunhofer ISE has supported the project by setting up a pilot production line at its PV-TEC in Freiburg, Germany. The line mirrors TALON PV’s planned US factory equipment and is used for refining product design, optimizing processes, and training personnel. Technology selection and factory layout planning were already completed before installation. Following the US ramp-up, further development is planned in Freiburg, including perovskite-silicon tandem research. TALON PV has committed to supply American module makers with G12, G12R, and custom TOPCon cells to strengthen the local supply chain. Fraunhofer ISE, inventor of the TOPCon architecture, remains one of few institutes producing large-format cells outside China.
