Swiss cleantech company Synhelion, has fueled a car with Solar Gasoline for the first time. The fuel was produced at its DAWN plant in Jülich, Germany. The plant has been generating synthetic fuels on an industrial scale since 2024. Synhelion’s process uses solar heat to convert water and biogenic carbon into fuels. These fuels are nearly CO₂-neutral and compatible with existing engines. A 1985 Audi Sport quattro ran on solar gasoline without engine modifications. The test drive took place during the Supercar Owners Circle Classic event in Switzerland. AMAG Group’s CEO Helmut Ruhl drove the car. He stated the fuel performed like fossil gasoline. This is Synhelion’s third real-world test, following trials with a motorcycle and steamboat. AMAG is an investor and customer of Synhelion. The company plans to expand solar fuel demonstrations and scale up production.
