Spain-based X-ELIO, a global leader in the renewable energy sector, signed a 20-year deal with Amazon to supply all the energy from its Funaki solar plant in Ube, Japan. The 14 MW (10 MW (AC)) plant was under construction and set to start by mid-2025, producing about 18,686 MWh yearly. Amazon aimed to achieve net-zero carbon emissions across its operations by 2040. X-ELIO had built 379 MW in Japan, with 14 MW under construction and a pipeline of 160 MW in solar and 224 MW in battery storage. This agreement supported Japan’s net-zero target by 2050.
