Trichy corporation has completed a detailed project report (DPR) for a 7.2 MW solar power plant at Panjapur, near the Kalaignar Karunanidhi Integrated Bus Terminus (KKBT). The DPR has been submitted to the municipal administration department for funding approval. Authorities have already identified and surveyed suitable land adjacent to the existing 9.6 MW solar facility, with plans to clear the site and erect reinforced concrete pillars for panel installation. As the location is 2 km from the Trichy-Madurai National Highway, lower dust accumulation is expected, reducing panel cleaning challenges. Although Panjapur is set to receive a new Tangedco substation, the proposed solar plant may initially connect to the E Pudur substation through an existing underground network located 5 km away. The electricity generated is intended to power the air-conditioned KKBT terminus, while the corporation has also proposed a 100 kW rooftop solar project at its zone II office near Palakkarai.
