Swift Current Energy energizes 800 MW solar project in Illinois

The 800 MW Double Black Diamond Solar project by Swift Current Energy has begun operations in Illinois, supplying Chicago and increasing local jobs and tax revenue.

US-based RE company, Swift Current Energy has announced its 800 MW Double Black Diamond Solar project in Illinois. It marks the largest operating solar facility east of the Mississippi River. Located in Sangamon and Morgan counties, the project supplies clean power to the City of Chicago and seven other customers through Constellation, helping meet rising electricity demand. The project used American-made components, created about 500 jobs during construction, and is expected to generate around $100 million in local tax revenue over its lifetime. Major suppliers included First Solar and Nextracker, with financing support from Google, MUFG, Societe Generale, and Truist.
