Solx, an US solar module manufacturer, has announced that its new 1-Gigawatt solar module factory in Puerto Rico will use Origami Solar’s US-made high-strength steel frames. This includes frames for its G12 modules. The collaboration focused on supporting US manufacturing and reducing dependence on imported materials. Tests showed steel frames were twice as strong as aluminum, improving durability and lowering costs. The collaboration supported US manufacturing, job creation, and eligibility for the 10% domestic content tax credit. With the upcoming 25% tariffs on imported steel and aluminum, the move also helped avoid supply chain risks. Solx’s factory was expected to start production in July 2025. Recently, Origami Solar had set up a high-speed production line in Arkansas and partnered with US manufacturers to ensure a stable domestic supply.
