Sharjah National Oil Corporation (SNOC) has inaugurated the SANA solar power plant in Sharjah, developed with SEWA Emerge Masdar and EDF. The plant is located near the Sajaa Gas Plant and covers 850000 square meters with a generation capacity of 60 MW. It is the first utility scale solar project in the emirate and one of the first globally to supply its own energy needs for oil and gas operations while exporting surplus electricity to SEWA. The facility includes over 98000 solar panels installed on 13000 movable poles designed to track the sun. The plant is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 66000 tons annually equal to the power use of nearly 13780 homes in Sharjah.
