Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Limited (RUMSL), a state-owned renewable energy developer headquartered in Bhopal and responsible for implementing large-scale solar parks in Madhya Pradesh, has developed India’s first firm and dispatchable renewable energy project in Morena. The 440 MW solar-plus-storage project has achieved a record-low tariff of INR 2.70(~ $0.032)per unit during a reverse auction held on September 19, which concluded after nearly twelve hours of bidding. According to RUMSL, the project is designed to provide 95% annual supply availability, including reliable coverage during peak hours, compared to earlier projects that offered only 50% peak-hour availability and 85% annual availability. The project combines a composite solar installation charging batteries during the day with a storage-as-a-service mechanism, where surplus grid power at night recharges batteries for morning peak-hour supply.
