France-headquartered Qair has been awarded approximately 300 MW for two solar projects in Tunisia. The projects include 198 MW in Khobna and 100 MW in Gafsa. They are part of a 500 MW tender by the Tunisian Ministry of Industry, Mines, and Energy. The plan aims to generate 1.7 GW of renewable energy. The projects are expected to be operational by 2027. They will produce around 1,000 GWh annually, covering 5% of Tunisia’s electricity needs. They will save 2.5 lac tons of oil equivalent to natural gas worth $125 million. Electricity generation costs will be reduced by $70 million per year. The projects will create jobs and cut CO₂ emissions by 5 lac tons annually. This follows Qair’s inauguration of the 10 MW Feriana project in Kasserine. Qair aims to expand its capacity in Africa from 65 MW to 500 MW by 2030. It has ongoing projects in Morocco, Burkina Faso, Chad, Mauritius, and Seychelles.
