Prosperity Works, headquartered in New Mexico, and Chaberton Energy, based in Maryland, have begun developing a 2.8 MW DC community solar project in Deming, New Mexico. The project, known as Lake Jody, has the capacity to power approximately 650 households, with half of its subscribers being low-income residents. Four additional projects in Alamogordo, Belen, Lordsburg, and Silver City have a combined capacity of 28 MW DC and are awaiting approval. All projects fall under the New Mexico Community Solar Program which is established by the Community Solar Act. This initiative has aimed to reduce energy costs for low-income households, where utility bills can account for 30% of monthly income. The program has a statewide target of 500 MW of community solar capacity to increase renewable energy adoption.
