A state-owned enterprise, POWERCHINA has commissioned Zambia’s largest single photovoltaic project, the 100 MW Kabwe Solar Project, in Chisamba district on May 20, 2025. Completed in just 10 months, the project delivers 180 million kWh of electricity annually, meeting the needs of 150,000 households and reducing regional power shortages by 30%. It involved 66,000 spiral piles, transformer testing, and used patented technologies for faster execution. The project created 1,350 jobs with a 96% local employment rate and trained 320 technicians. Additional infrastructure includes a 132 kV transmission line, substation upgrades, water facilities, and future conversion of the construction camp into a school and clinic.
