Japan-based ORIX Corporation has installed solar power systems at Kansai International Airport and Osaka International Airport. Kansai Airports operates both airports. The total capacity of the systems is about 23.4 MW. Power supply will begin on February 1, 2025. ORIX set up a special purpose company (SPC) as the power producer. The SPC installed about 22.8 MW at Kansai International Airport and 0.6 MW at Osaka International Airport. ORIX Renewable Energy Management Corporation will manage operation and maintenance. The generated power will be used onsite. Kansai International Airport will generate about 27,800 MWh per year. This will cover 16.6% of its power use. Osaka International Airport will generate 600 MWh per year. This will cover 1.3% of its power use. The total power generation will reduce CO2 emissions by about 12,300 tons per year. ORIX is expanding corporate PPAs by using consumer-owned land and rooftops for solar installations.
