Xcel Energy, a Minneapolis-based electric and gas utility, has started operations of the 5 MW Chippewa Sun solar array in Hallie, near Eau Claire, Wisconsin. The project was developed by OneEnergy Renewables, built by Hunt Electric, and is owned and operated by Maryland-based Standard Solar. The array is expected to generate 10 million kWh annually. Electricity from the facility is being purchased by Xcel Energy to support the energy needs of UW-Eau Claire, Pablo Group, and the City of Eau Claire. UW-Eau Claire has will compleatly offset the electricity used at The Sonnentag, which is the largest LEED Gold-certified university recreation center in the US. The City of Eau Claire has stated that the energy will support several public buildings, including City Hall and the water treatment plant. Pablo Group will use the power at its SpringHill Suites by Marriott.
