The Ohio Power Siting Board has denied the 150 MW Stark Solar project in Washington Township, backed by South Korea-based Samsung C&T. The decision was based on opposition from Stark County Commissioners, township trustees, and public concerns about farmland loss, aesthetics, and property values. Samsung C&T had proposed installing 237,000 panels across 860 acres to power tens of thousands of homes. The project was expected to create 381 temporary and 11 permanent jobs and generate $57 million in tax revenue over 40 years. Although no technical issues were found, the board said it was not in the public interest. Stark Solar has joined other halted projects in the state, while natural gas developments continue despite opposition. As per the boardโs ruling, developers may appeal the decision to the Ohio Supreme Court.ย
