NTPC-SAIL Power Supply Company Limited (NSPCL), a joint venture of NTPC Limited and Steel Authority of India Limited headquartered in New Delhi, has commissioned a floating solar project of 15 MW at the Maroda-1 reservoir in Bhilai Steel Plant’s township in Durg district, Chhattisgarh. Officials noted that the floating installation is designed to help reduce evaporation from the reservoir. NSPCL also confirmed that following evaluation of the Maroda-1 facility’s performance, a similar project may be developed at the Maroda-2 reservoir, while a separate 35 MW solar project has been proposed and is currently under planning. The project, developed at a cost of INR 111.35 crore (~ $ 12.25 million), is expected to generate 34.25 million units of electricity annually for captive use by Bhilai Steel Plant.
