India-based NTPC announced the development of a 50 MW solar project in Sri Lanka through a joint venture with Ceylon Electricity Board. The 50:50 joint venture, Trincomalee Power Company Limited (TPCL), is establishing the project at Sampoor in Trincomalee. The tariff for the project, which is extendable to 120 MW, has been set at 5.97 US cents per unit following discussions with stakeholders. This initiative aims to contribute to Sri Lanka's energy mix by increasing clean energy capacity and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
