GovernorPhil Murphy signed legislation expanding New Jersey’s clean energy programs to address regional electricity challenges. Under Murphy administration, the state’s solar capacity had previously grown from 2.4 GW to 5.2 GW. Another bill establishesa transmission-scale energy storage incentive program with a goal of 2 GW by 2030. These measures are intended to expand electricity generation capacity, stabilize costs, and improve grid reliability in response to rising demand and market issues linked to the PJM grid operator. One of the new bills directs the Board of Public Utilities to open registration by October 2025 for 3 GW of additionalcommunity solar projects, extending access to about 450,000 residents, including 250,000 from low-income households.
