Nautilus Solar Energy LLC, a community solar provider in the US, has reported that 15 community solar projects in Maine became operational in 2024, adding 78 MW of capacity. This brought its total capacity in the state to 160 MW. The company now operates 28 community solar projects across Maine. The projects serve over 13,700 subscribers, including more than 285 businesses. One of the new projects is a 7 MW solar site in Sanford. It was built on a former industrial brownfield. The land was repurposed for renewable energy. The site is located on city-owned and Maine Turnpike Authority property. It previously housed a circuit board recycling facility. Now, it provides clean power to over 960 subscribers. The projects created jobs during construction. They continue to support local site management. Nautilus Solar worked with Central Maine Power, Versant Power, and Bangor Hydro District utilities. Together, they expanded access to clean energy in Maine.
