Nagpur Metro’s long-delayed solar expansion has regained momentum following an order from the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC). MERC has directed Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) to upgrade its outdated portal, which had limited net metering approvals to 1 MW despite revised limits of 5 MW. As per MERC’s July 9 directive, MSEDCL must operationalise the updated portal within one month and file its reply within 15 days. MahaMetro stated that 1.5 MW of solar capacity installed at Hingna and Mihan depots remained unused for over a year, resulting in monthly losses of INR 12 lakh(~ $14,400). The delay forced MahaMetro to suspend additional installations.
MERC directs MSEDCL to enable Nagpur Metro’s 1.5 MW solar usage
MERC ordered MSEDCL to allow net metering above 1 MW, helping Nagpur Metro reinitiate its halted 1.5 MW solar deployment across Hingna and Mihan depots.
