US-based Madison Gas and Electric (MGE) and EDF Renewables, a subsidiary of EDF Group, has received approval from the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin (PSCW) for developing the Sunnyside Solar Energy Center in Fitchburg. The project combines of a 20 MW solar array and a 40 MW BESS. The solar component is scheduled for operation in 2026 and the battery system to be operated in 2027. Integrated into MGE’s distribution network, the facility is expected to supply power to approximately 6,000 households. Additional MGE-linked solar projects in Fitchburg include Tyto Solar, Strix Solar, and the O’Brien Solar Fields.
