Karnataka has approved a floating solar project on Doddabommasandra and Rachenahalli lakes in Bengaluru’s Yelahanka zone, with a planned capacity of 20 MW. The Karnataka Tank Conservation and Development Authority cleared the initiative, which is to be implemented by Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Limited. Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar informed the Assembly that panels will occupy about 10 % of the lake surfaces. DK Shivakumar added that the amount of clean energy generated may be used for local needs s The project remains in its early planning stage, and neither the state government nor Bruhat Bengaluru MahanagaraPalike has allocated funding. State officials have stated that the outcome of this project will determine whether similar floating solar systems are introduced in other lakes across Karnataka.
