The Jharkhand Renewable Energy Development Agency (JREDA) has outlined a plan during a journalist workshop in Ranchi to support the state's energy transition. Jharkhand has set a target to install 4 GW of solar power by 2027, with 1,000 solar villages expected to contribute around 400 MW. The state faces structural challenges in this shift, as nearly one-third of its revenue comes from coal-related activities. With 18 coal-producing districts—the highest in India—Jharkhand’s move toward solar requires managing economic dependence on coal while planning for rural electrification and diversification of its energy mix.
