US-based J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc. has launched a solar facility in Gentry, Arkansas, to offset 80% of the power used by its three main corporate buildings in Lowell. The 40-acre site has over 10,000 solar panels and produces about 9.3 million kWh of electricity each year. Extra power goes to the grid through net metering. The project, managed by NextEra Energy and completed by Verogy, began construction in 2024 with consultation from Trio and Carroll Electric Cooperative Corporation. The facility’s annual clean energy output equates to the power usage of nearly 1,200 homes and prevents carbon emissions comparable to removing 1,400 vehicles from roads. J.B. Hunt continues working toward its goal of reducing carbon emission intensity by 32% by 2034.
