Indian Railways has signed a 25-year PPA with the Madhya Pradesh government for 170 MW of solar power. It secures solar power at Rs 2.15/kWh, the lowest rate in India. The power will come from Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Power Limited (RUMSL). RUMSL's solar parks are in Agar, Shajapur, and Neemuch. The Union railways minister urged all states to contribute renewable energy, including solar, wind, hydro, and nuclear. Indian Railways is acquiring solar power through PPAs and installing its own solar systems. By 2030, its traction power demand is expected to reach 10 GW. It has already secured 4,260 MW of solar and 3,427 MW of wind power. So far, it has tied up 1.5 GW of renewable energy to help achieve its goal of becoming a net-zero carbon emitter by 2030.
