iAccess Energy, a Germany-based renewable energy developer, and Ampt, a US-based power electronics company, have announced a DC-coupled solar-plus-storage project in Germany. According to iAccess Energy, the system has integrated a 7 MW photovoltaic array, a 4 MW / 8 MWh battery storage system, and a 4.4 MW AC inverter. iAccess Energy has engineered the system using SMA inverters, tier-one batteries, and Ampt’s DC/DC String Optimizers with advanced safety features and software controls. As per Ampt, the String Optimizers perform string-level MPPT and follow battery voltage during charge and discharge cycles. The DC-coupled architecture has enabled a direct PV-to-battery connection, requiring fewer inverters and transformers to reduce costs. iAccess Energy has said the system supports simultaneous battery charging and grid export, and it has also confirmed that over 40 similar projects are under development.
