Ho Chi Minh City approved rooftop solar projects valued at over VND 650 billion (~ $25.2 million) to install more than 43 MW of capacity on 438 public administrative buildings. The portfolio, announced in April 2025, covers public agencies, service units, and buildings classified as public assets. Investors will select contractors after receiving in-principle approval from the municipal People’s Committee. This initiative aligns with Vietnam’s national energy strategy to increase the share of renewable energy in the city’s electricity system to at least 15% between 2025 and 2030. The project also supports Vietnam’s emission reduction goal for 2050, focused at the COP26 Conference. The city also aims to equip at least 50% of office buildings with rooftop solar panels by 2030.
