Exagen, a UK-based renewable energy developer, has submitted a planning application for the 45 MW Mantle Solar Farm in Wymeswold, Leicestershire. The project is designed to generate electricity for over 19,750 homes annually and spans 96 hectares across three land parcels. According to Exagen, the site layout avoids designated landscapes, ecologically sensitive zones, and high-value agricultural land. The company has proposed 60 hectares of modified grassland, 1.4 hectares of native woodland, 14.5 hectares of species-rich margins, a new pond, and 3.1 km of hedgerows. Exagen stated that the project is expected to deliver a biodiversity net gain of 60% for habitats and 16% for hedgerows. The proposal includes new permissive footpaths and a community benefit fund, both of which were added following public consultation events held in early 2025.
