EWEC (Emirates Water and Electricity Company) has awarded the 1.5 GW Khazna Solar project in the vicinity of Al Khazna, Abu Dhabi, to Masdar and ENGIE. The facility will be equipped with around three million tracking solar panels and digital monitoring and robotic cleaning technology. Once operational, it is expected to supply power to about 160,000 homes across the UAE. The Financial closure is expected by late 2025. Khazna Solar PV is part of Abu Dhabi’s broader strategy to reach 18 GW of installed solar capacity by 2035 and diversify its energy mix toward cleaner power sources. The facility is also estimated to reduce more than 2.4 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually. This facility was awarded through a long-term Power Purchase Agreement to design, finance, build, and operate the facility.
